30 Days with America's High School Coaches - What's Next?

The manuscript for 30 Days with America's High School Coaches is in the hands of the publisher. However, there's still a bit to go before you can link to the book's site on Amazon and place an order. Here are some of the next steps:

Editing – Before the book can be produced, it will first have to go through editing. This process is a welcome one for a writer. A second reader with no prior connection to the project reads the manuscript. He or she will suggest structural changes and improvements to strengthen the work. Once that’s done, we turn to copyediting. That’s the process of making sure the grammar is sound, everything is consistent, and all the little pieces that need to be in the book are there.

"When it comes to shaping America’s next generation, high school coaches may well be the most important people in our society."
- From 30 Days with America's High School Coaches

Marketing – This is a long process, but critical to getting the book before the broadest possible audience. Over the coming few months, several things are going to be happening:

Soliciting Comments for the Jacket: Once the book is through the editing process and we have an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy), we will be making direct appeals to people to write a few words about the book. Some of this will appear on the back jacket. Some will be used in the book, and longer pieces will be considered for the Foreword, Afterword, and/or Preface. I've already reached out to a few folks about individuals to contact. Those profiled in the book will be hearing more about this from me in the coming weeks.

Compiling A Media List: I am currently working with the marketing manager to put together a list of people in the media to contact. Those people who are featured in the book will be receiving more information from me about this in coming weeks.

... And probably a few thousand details that I've yet to be made aware of ...

Pre-sales – Once the book is ready to go, there will be a pre-sale period. More information about that as we get closer to the release date.

Events – Like everything else having to do with public meetings, Covid is complicating the planning of public events around the book. My hope, however, is to have several events across the country. A few events are already in the very early discussion stages, but nothing is set in stone. Watch here for coming details!

So ... while the book is "done" from a writing perspective, there's still a lot of work to do. It's all good work, however, and promises to make for a very exciting 2021.

Thank you, again, to everyone involved with this project and your interest in making it a success. Should you have questions, or ideas for promoting the book, please drop me an email at
